From heavy road plates to lightweight heavy-duty road plates

Road plates are suitable for creating temporary access routes to construction sites located some distance from the public road network. These access routes are subjected to heavy loads from lorries, cranes and other heavy traffic. Due to the heavy load, heavy-duty road plates, such as steel road plates or dragline mats, are often chosen. The disadvantage of heavy-duty road plates is that they sink into soft or wet ground and are difficult to handle and susceptible to theft. That is why Ferex has introduced ‘lightweight heavy-duty’ road plates.

Multi-purpose road plates

Suitable for any surface

Composite is a material that conforms to the ground and offers great design flexibility. To make the most of this flexibility, Ferex finishes the edges of the road plates on all four sides with a tongue-and-groove joint. The lip joint ensures a flat and seamless surface. This prevents the road panels from shifting and stops mud from being forced up between the panels, as is often the case with heavy-duty road panels. The composite road panels can be laid without any prior ground preparation.

The optimal pressure distribution and load dispersion mean that you can lay the composite road panels directly on any surface. Partly thanks to their buoyancy, the composite road panels will not sink into the ground. This makes composite road panels versatile for use in the following markets/sectors:

Composite vs. heavy road plates

The use of composite road plates results in a 50% reduction in logistics movements compared to heavy road plates. This applies from transport right through to the construction site itself. Due to their low weight, twice as many composite road plates can be transported per load compared to heavy road plates. Logistical movements are also halved on the construction site. Due to their low weight, two composite road panels can be laid or removed at the same time.
